1.) Thank
you for joining us in our tour of Gold Toe
Brands, Inc. The tour
begins with a look at the spools of yarn used to knit the socks. Most yarn used in the
knitting process is white or natural color. The sock is dyed later on
during the process to add the colors that our consumers demand. Inside the mill, row after row of knitting machines are lined up, with the yarn suspended above. |

2.) Once the socks are knit, they are sent to the Seaming area. When socks are knit, the toe of the sock is not closed. In the seaming process the sock is placed under the machine and quickly sewn to close the toe. GOLD TOEŽ toe seams are specially made for comfort and durability. |

3.) When the socks are completely sewn, they are gathered up and then staged to be dyed. Here they are labeled by type and style, and placed in bins. The socks will be dyed next, so when a certain type is needed they are pulled from the bins and sent to the dye room. |

4.) The socks are pulled
from the bins and moved into the Dyeing area. Pictured below is one
of the large Dyeing machines. If a sock is to remain white it is not dyed
but is bleached instead. |

5.) After being dyed or bleached, the socks must be dried. They are moved to the Drying area and are loaded into large drying machines. |

6.) Once the socks are
dried, they are sent to the Boarding area where they are steam
pressed to provide a superior appearance. This is called Boarding because
actual wooden boards were once used in the process. |

7.) The final steps to preparing the socks are 1.) Quality Check: all socks are inspected to ensure that every sock a consumer receives is of the highest quality. 2.) Transfers: transfers are fabric decorations, such as cartoon characters, that are pressed onto the sock. 3.) Banding: socks are labeled with each brands' label, or 'band'. 4.) Bagging: the sock pairs are placed in bags for shipping to the retailer. |
